General Information
As earlier stated, PCCR was originally created for a competition called Community Problem Solving. Alexander Junior High students decided to develop PCCR in response to the recent drastic increase in school violence, a subject that hits close to home for Alexander students. Several years ago a student arrived at Alexander Junior High armed with a twelve gauge shotgun hidden in his jeans and shot and injured a fellow classmate. Two years later, Luke Woodham entered Pearl High School, Pearl Mississippi, and withdrew a large caliber rifle from his duffel bag. Woodham killed two students and injured several more. While many schools have found an answer to the violence problem in metal detectors and police officers on school grounds, Alexander Junior High has decided not to focus on the problem of violence, but instead focus on the solution of stopping the violence before it occurs. In the end, this is the ultimate goal. Not going before a panel of professional judges and being awarded a ribbon or trophy because they liked our idea, but using that idea to assure that no one at Alexander, be they student, teacher or faculty, is the victim of school violence.
