In-Depth Information

The PCCR Program is extremely involved, and requires the cooperation of not only the students, but also the faculty. In order to function properly, the entire administration must be in one accord. Otherwise, the system will break down and some asspect will suffer the consequences. The administrators must be willing to allow the plan to take effect and be implemented into the everyday routine of the school, the teachers must be willing to allow students to miss certain non-core classes in order to recieve counseling, and the students must be willing to follow proper procedure and keep all information disclosed during counseling confidential.

The way program is designed to work is as follows. When a student or students know they have a problem, they may ask the teacher of an elective class to allow them to go see a peer counselor. The student and the counselor are left alone with each other, with no other people or faculty around. This way, the student(s) feel more comfortable talking about their problems because they know that the person they are talking to has gone through the same experiences. The peer counselors job is to allow the student to discuss the problem at their discression, and not attempt to force information from them. When the student does tell the peer counselor something, he or she is not to be judgemental or arrogant, but instead is to offer advice to the student as a friend, not a class assignment.

The main goal of the PCCR Program is to stop conflicts before they can develop into something more serious. In this way, the result is bennificial to all those involved.
